Will return early afternoon. Probably by 2:00 or 3:00, but really depends on what all is available to shoot.

What to bring:

Camera and lens for landscapes as well as zooming for wildlife

Tripod if you have one.

Water and snacks.

Comfortable clothes and shoes. Mornings can be very cold in the valley in late October.

 

Thanks to Krystal McCammon and her family for hosting our club at their dairy farm. We had a great time! 

We had a great time and spent 2-3 hours learning and helping each other.

PORTERS CREEK TRAIL WILDFLOWER WALK SUMMARY

On Saturday, April 18th we started our trek up Porters Creek about 9:30. We found several members of the club along the way. We stopped and photographed a wide variety of wildflowers. Foam flower, Fiddlehead fern, wild geranium, toothwort, stonecrop, showy orchis, Trillium Erectum Grandiflora, painted trillium, bishops cap, buttercups, white fringed phacelia, little brown jug, wild ginger, wild phlox, rue anenome, chickweed, bluets and dwarf crested iris. There are some I am surely forgetting. Let's just say, there were plenty! After several hours of photographing wildflowers, we crossed the Little Pigeon River and began our hike up to Fern Branch Falls. Not a difficult hike, just narrow and rocky trail. At the falls, we climbed over rocks and logs up toward the falls to get the best vantage point for a nice shot. The sun was out bright and sunny, which isn't the best for waterfall photography, but we made the most of it. After 45 minutes to an hour a few of us started back. Taking our time and stopping to photograph what we might have missed on the way. We arrived back at the trailhead around 3:30. Overall, if was a fun and rewarding day of photography. If you weren't able to join us, we missed you and hope next time you're able to come.
